Bube's: Should Auld Acquaintance Be for Nuts?

Another packed holiday house at Bube's with the super-sized Nutsacks breaking up into little snack sacks.The original team A Nutsack Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand took home the gold, despite missing a baseball question.

Quietly Making Noise made a big leap in the last round to claim second. Was it due to their new regular Derick (sp?)?

I Thought I'd Be Betters was a visiting holiday team that a featured a man who referred to himself in the third person. Appropriately, they came in third.

The Missionaries to Amsterdam were determined to win a Trashbag of Deelite prize, but had to settle for the skanky bottle of clam juice (I think they plan on poisoning someone) and theme choice for next week: Books Into Movies.

Brent had to explain to me the proper pronunciation of his team's name: Dushwane's Balls Will Also Be Dropping at Midnight. Apparently it has something to do with Dwayne and his douchiness.

You Can't Fix Stupid were out of their comfort zone, having been exiled to the balcony.

Eric of the Undescended Nut could have used the help of Papa Sack on what he called "ageist" questions.

Santa's Helpful Oil Lobbyists were well-rested from semester break and were the only team to ace the picture round.

Nutsack Stuck to the Side of My Leg had been leading all night, but were done in by the last round.

The Tony Danza Slap were almost seatless, but luckily a table opened up for them.

Chuckles: Why Have You Abandoned Us?

Teams that arrived expecting me as a host (such as the Trivia at 8 team from the VFW barely seen above) were surprised to see me sitting at a team table instead. Justin was our substitute host tonight as I had the pleasure of playing trivia with a bunch of family members. And we won first place! (Don't worry, we recused ourselves from any prize money) I think what put us over the top was I was the only one in the whole restaurant who had bought Fleetwood Mac's Tusk album back in 1957. I didn't pay attention to the rankings, but Justin did say that next week's theme will be beer.

Bube's: Pack the Halls with Teams of Jolly

As our first place team remarked in their name There's More Room in My Nutsack Than There Is In the House. It was standing room only for a night of holiday fun and frivolity, as seen above with the third place Tony Danza Slap. They leapt from sixth to third, right behind the Toxic Olives, who fell to the 'sacks in the last round. You Can't Fix Stupid placed fourth, followed by everyone's favorite satanic Christmas Critters. A Zaneless Puff N Suds was hoping for seventh, but placed sixth while TDC picked next week's theme: Legos.

Team Discovery Channel had a reunion with alumni members Sam, who was visiting from Oregon, and Travis who traveled the whole way from far away Elizabethtown.

The Toxic Olives added some extra firepower with Hot Tub Jimmy and singer/songwriter Damion Wolfe, who drove up from Baltimore just for the show.

Ashley and Josh of Puff 'N Suds made a new friend in Dan Pickering, formerly of the legendary rock band The Horny Toads.

You Can't Fix Stupid brought along their own Santa Hats for some good cheer.

That's What She Said won the grand prize of a singing Christmas tree and were very impressed by its size (That's what she said).

Lititz Ambucs Christmas Party

Friday night I hosted a trivia show for the Lititz Ambucs for the second year in a row. The food was once again fantastic, as was the competition. Following are some pics of the winning team, Ambucs #1. (None of the players are pictured with their real-life partners, which caused a scandal) Their Velvet Fog Knowledge catapaulted them from the cellar to the top, vaulting past the Candy Canes. Chicken Mediocre, who had been leading all night, stumbled and fell to last place.

Where do I start? First some numbers. I think Hannah is going to pull the post office out of the red this year. We are still counting but so far Thur. night's total is 5400. I'm estimating we have counted a little above half. For those sending cards: Wed-750 cards Thur-2000 cards-which USPS brought in 4 boxes Fri-didn't even begin to count--11 large boxes!!! Firetruck convoy count was 89 firetrucks & 40 or so police-rescue-smaller vehicles!!!!

Thur. night was an incredible night. I am having a hard time putting into words how thankful & grateful my family & I are for such a wonderful community. Our EMS family is incredible for what they pulled together in a matter of 3 days. Hannah really enjoyed the evening. We unloaded her out of the ambulance near the entrance so she could watch the vehicles. She loved all the lights and kept telling me "that is a short one" or "that is a really big one". After we got inside, her eyes lit up over all the toys & bags of cards on stage. She spent almost 2 hours opening cards on her gurney. After we went home she opened some more & then slept really good.

Words can't begin to express the magnitude of love & caring we felt from our neighbors-friends-family-strangers last night. Sometimes, with the economy the way it is, and all the hustle & bustle of the holiday season you can feel a little down and have pity on yourself for the situation I'm in. Then, we get an outpouring of love from so many, most of which I don't even know & it restores your faith in mankind. I can't describe how it feels to read all these guestbook entries from all over the country and the world & know how much encouragement and faith it brings me. Thanks to everyone who is thinking & praying for my family during this time & remember God is in control of everything.

Chuckles: You Know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Paulie?

I never knew that Paul from Ubersmack was the ultimate Christmas uber-nerd. He used his extensive knowledge of his collection of 1002 Christmas CDs to help his team to a whopping 93 points on a special night of almost all Christmas trivia. (Paul is second from right, not the reindeer). Almost all of the items from the Trashbag of Deelite were holiday-themed and all the teams who stayed to the end got Christmas lottery tickets. I was on the receiving end of the giving tree, too, so thanks to all that contributed to my gift and Merrrrrrrrrry Christmas!

The Pixie Stix were out in full force and placed second. Chris is looking forward to decorating his own marshmallow trees.

Twin Roses used their extra Kelly-power to capture the bronze.

Fourth place Skirtland can't wait to get home and watch their Spanish-version of Escape from Gilligan's Island DVD.

The fifth place Oompas proudly show off their tiny pet Santa costume.

Carl of the Zombies got the world's biggest Christmas stocking. Unfortunately, he must provide his own filling.

Presenting our theme-pickers for next week: The Dropkick Mollys! They're going with tennis.

The Dexter-loving Team Chamo dropped one notch from last week, but being 8th out of 20 teams is a good solid showing.

Greg and Jean of Prius were happy with their Bah Humbug! hat.

Clowns McNutty allllllmost got to pick a theme. (I think they're still debating on whether to change their name.)

Andrew is displaying his winning ticket, while Aimee regrets not having seen the first season of Dexter.

Special Christmas Wish for a child in Lititz

I received the following request on our campus e-mail at F&M and am passing it along to you all.

Dear F&M Community,

This is a very special Christmas wish for a young child who is not expected to live beyond the next few months. I know you may see many of these requests but this really is a local child with a very simple Christmas wish. I just visited a friend who had cancer treatments with this child's mother and she gave me the following request from her cousin.

Hannah’s Christmas Wish

This is the true story of my 5-yr old 2nd cousin, Hannah Garman, who was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, a rare and incurable brain tumor. She was going to be the flower girl in our wedding in May, but was diagnosed a week after we asked her to be the flower girl. This is especially sad because her mother died 2 yrs ago from breast cancer.

Right now she has lost most of her motor skills. She is confined to bed and cannot really do anything or play with the gifts she is getting from people, but she LOVES getting cards - she has gotten so many from people she does not know and just loves to have grandma read about the people who send them and see their pictures and is so proud of all her cards. Her room is just filled with cards.

When asked what she wants for Christmas she said she wants to see how many Christmas cards she can get. Many people have passed this wish along to their churches, prayer groups, friends and family. There are school groups where children are making her cards. People are including pictures so she can see who it is that is sending her the card.

VFW: It's a Wonderful Game (or: Zusu's A-Gaga!)

"No, Darla, don't feed the poinsettia to Blitzen! It's poisonous!"

It was an extra special holiday episode of the Earth Trivia Show at the VFW tonight as we had our last competition of 2008. Grant won a date for one at Penn Cinema, Karen won four whoopie pies and Darla won the beautiful plant seen above (Darla is the one in blue).

Clarence Oddbody AS2 pulled off a Christmas miracle and earned their wings by flitting by Chicks and Dicks and Room Two in the last round. Champion Jack-offer Matt beat Carmen for second place. Nerak, a one-woman team, missed second place by only one question. The B52s were fifth, followed by Trivia @ 8. And Grant had another present as his team got to pick the theme for the January 7th show: sitcoms of the '80s.

Bube's: Oh, the Weather Outside Appeared Like It was Kind of Gonna Be Frightful

Possibly icy conditions kept the crowd away, but there were enough teams who braved the roads to have a fun night of trivia. In honor of the sparse attendance, tonight's winners named themselves It Looks Like a Blue Jays Game In Here...Nutsacks! They had been slugging it out with Quietly Making Noise all evening, but pulled away by two questions in the last round. Danisha's team She Better Show Up! won the bronze, three points ahead of the Toxic Olive. The Black Beatle was fifth, the Shameful Dead sixth and Noel's Team ran away before the finale.

Dana the Toxic Olive was able to make it (even though her team didn't) since she now only lives a mile away from Bube's. She also got theme choice for next week, and she's going with the shows of Sid and Marty Kroft. Also, it's our extra special Christmas show, so wear your formal attire.

Dave the Black Beatle had to decide between the Christmas Elf and the Chocolate Porter.

Jonathan is shocked that Steve would trade away his Bonanza DVD for a bag of irradiated spaghetti and meatballs.

I think I might decorate the tree tonight. (It's been up since last year, since it conveniently hides some water damage on the wall behind it).

Chuckles: Skirts Rising

The battle for third was intense as Patricia, Kimmy, Rob and Carl were joined by the next generation of Zombies and they took the bronze...

...while A Pixie Stick and a Couple of Whirlygigs was only one point behind...

...and a brand new team, the Sick Bastards, was only one point behind them.

It was like Christmas in December for Team Chamo, as they finally made their life-long goal of placing seventh. To celebrate the holidays, they chose Dexter, a show about a serial killer.
