VFW: Well, That Bites!

Jerry of Room Two took on the Dynamic Duo of Don and Flat Stanley of We're Here for the Beer to figure out who would get the coveted seventh place spot. Stanley was too much of a lightweight and quickly lost. Mixed Company was tied with a "new" team, Who Gives a Rat's Ass for fifth and there was another tie for third between D&M and Third Rock. That called for yet another tie-breaker as Dennis fell before Trish the Mighty. The Mysterious Enigmas had a fantastic fourth round, getting eight right, but they failed to catch up to Chicks and Dicks, who had aced teo of the previous rounds.

The Pretzel cats consisted of Kathy and professional substitute host Mike Gallion. He'll be filling in for me next week, when he'll bring his own unique spin on trivia. Note: there will be no theme next week. (If you want to study up for the Jan. 28th show, it'll be Hogan's Heroes.)

Bube's: Seeing Red

It was nice that the weather finally cooperated and people could easily get to Bube's. Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been a Member of Team Nutsack returned to the winner's circle on a special night of anti-commie trivia. One question behind was the Tony Danza Slap and Quietly Making Noise took the bronze. The Olives were right behind, followed by a tie for fifth between Peter Nincompoop and a team whose name rhymed with S.W.A.T.

Jeremy and Angela had just come for a meal but stayed for the game and got the coveted seventh place spot. They chose sailing as next week's theme. They also had the funniest team name of the night: SpongeBob Pilates.

Bowling for a Cure!

A friend's Relay for Life team is having a Bowling for a Cure Fundraiser. I hope you can come out and support our cause. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

River of Hope is having a Bowling for a Cure Fundraiser on Sunday, February 8th from 1 to 4 P.M. It will be at the Columbia Bowling Center located at 601 South 16th Street in Columbia. Your $10 donation will include shoe rental and bowling for the day. There will be prizes for the kids and raffle items. The bowling alley as a snack bar and a lounge. I'm Hosting at the Barn Door Tonight!

While icy Billy Warmth is away in balmy Alaska (I think I got my adjectives mixed up there), I will be subbing for him at his Monday trivia show at the Barn Door in Millersville tonight (Jan. 12th). I know how popular substitute hosts can be, so if you want to show up and lend me some moral support, the 3-round show starts at 8:30 P.M. and runs till 10ish. The theme is cereals, so bring a bowl and some milk :-) FYI: The Barn Door does not take reservations and avoid parking in the mini-mart's lot (they ticket).

Chuckles: Who Needs Teammates?

Tonight Marge was finally relieved of the burden of Billy Warmth and she soared to great heights as she placed first all by her lonesome, besting 17 teams. Unfortunately for her, she tied the 18th team, Of Pixie Stix and Whirlygigs, which forced a tie-breaker between her and Fritz. The virginal Marge fended off the seasoned Fritz in the first round, but Fritz's experience in Jacking Off™ did her in. Kudos to Marge, however, for a well-played game!

Also, thanks to the members of Twin Roses and the Pixie Stix who contributed their Christmas re-gifts to the Trashbag of Dee-lite. I never knew they made snowman cheese!

The Desperate Housewives of the Twin Roses ditched their menfolk for the night and placed seventh. In honor of the upcoming holiday, they are going with Martin Luther King Jr. as the theme for next week.

Kim, (8th from left, or third from right if you don't like counting) brought along her group for their monthly outing. They'll be back soon.

Team 2 is very lucky. A couple of weeks ago they won a ten dollar lottery ticket and tonight they won the grand prize: the board game Star-crossed. I re-gifted the game because the instructions were too difficult for me to follow.

It was a night for name changes, as A Squared became the Miami Blades. The name change helped them, as they had their highest first round ever.

Okay, Charmin ad execs, you may try to make it cute by using an "adorable" red bear cub, but you're still showing us shreds of toilet paper sticking to a hairy butt.

VFW: These Are the Ties That Try Men's Souls

The first game of 2009 at the VFW was extra close, with six teams within 9 points of each other. First off was a tie for the top between Chicks and Dicks and Mixed Company. Pat claimed that he thought getting bitten was a good thing, but his defense was thrown out and Erma's team won the gold.

Then it was time for the tie-breaker for third between Trivia @ 8 and Giggles & Friends, with Dave falling quickly to Mark. Frank claims that he is a much better Jack-offer™.

Sic N Drunk are next week's theme pickers, and they are going with the sitcom starring America's most overpaid actor, Two and a Half Men.

Karen claimed that her menfolk were weighing her down.

Trish played for the second time this week, adding some new firepower.

Jean and Greg of Prius also played twice this week and were only two questions away from first place.

Bube's: Cake, No Icing

Motherboy had their first victory (if I recall correctly) on a special night of trivia. It was our semi-annual Bottom of the Bag night as lottery winners got to choose not one, but TWO items from the Trashbag of Deelite. These were all small items that no one had chosen before (kind of like the Island of Misfit Toys). And the Tiny Danza team won some day-old pumpkin cheesecakes as our Grand Prize. For the third Tuesday of this winter season the threat of icy conditions kept some teams away. They missed out free pixie stixs for all participants. There's nothing like a tube of colored sugar to get the brain synapses firing!

Christa was excited by her Tim Burton action figure. It almost stopped her from smacking Tariq.

Ben, Dee and Dave played as Tiny Danza, although they could have named themselves Bendee Dave.

The Nutsack Is Always Better Than the Movie were pleased that they almost aced the special movie picture round, but hurled when they came in fourth.

Mike and Dani braved the elements and were our smallest team.

Lawrence's team U R A Fudge Eye Na got some help from Ryan and Danisha. They get to pick next week's theme, so they are going with McCarthyism.

VFW: What's My Theme?

It's been so long since I've had a VFW show (due to the holidays), that I had to do some research to find out what this week's theme is: sitcoms of the '80s.

I want to give a shout out to Jimmee's Deluxe Grille in Lancaster. It's located right next to the Stockyard Inn and they make the best inexpensive burgers in town. They're usually a little show in service, but very much worth the wait. They also provide Old Bay and/or vinegar for their Boardwalk fries.

Chuckles: CHUDtastic New Year

Team C.H.U.D. is having a very good 2009 as they won the first game of the new year. Ubesrmack was nipping at their heels all night, but settled for second. The Zombies are the only team to think that Old Milwaukee is a decent beer, and that helped them to third. Skirtland once again was in fourth and the Twin Roses and the Pixie Stix tied for fifth. Greg and Jean of Prius had the highest score for the fourth round, which put them in the choice seventh place slot. They are going with Art as next week's theme. Next week will also see the debut of my limited edition designer Chuckles T-shirt.

The Zombies enjoyed their third place finish and would have come in first if they had not changed their answers.
