VFW: The Comeback Kids

Tonight's main story was the comeback of the B52s, who had been trailing Room Two all night. But fueled by Dots-power, they blazed through the last round and won by 12 points. Chicks and Dicks took third, followed by the Zombies, We're Here for the Beer, and Mixed Company. Leroy of the seventh place Alice in Wonderland team picked an appropriate theme for this time of the year: the Christmas classic "It's a Wonderful Life." Clarence is happy.
Patricia, Carl, Rob and Kim (AKA the Zombies) promise to come back after shuffleboard season is over.

Bubes: Tryptophan Be Gone!

The Drunken Clams are on a roll and thinking of getting t-shirts made. They once again placed second, but failed to catch the runaway Dick Cheney's Irregular Nutsack team. The 'sacks managed 8 questions right on a particularly gruelling last round whic left many teams devastated. Awesome Show, Great Job left before I could get a pic of the third-place team. Linuscratchitt's failure to come up with Descartes cost them the money, so they were fourth. The Wise Men and the Tony Danza Slap! tied for fifth, which meant that Team Discovery Channel gets to pick next week's theme: tribonds. The Red-Headed Slut and Dirk and the Digglers, meanwhile, were just happy to get their names mentioned.
I finally learned VanWife's name: Erin!
The Tony Danza Slap! team recovered from their Saturday shenanigans in time for Tuesday NIght trivia (TNT).
Phil of the $2 team has 16 years to go before he can truly appreciate his doll.

Chuckles: Austin, We Have a Problem...

Duane takes out his frustrations on Deric, who misheard a correct answer and cost the Tim Is Fat And Stupid So I Decided to Bring This Guy But I Sure Do Miss My Swettheart Kelly ...Smack team first place. Instead, due to the blunder, they had to settle for third, behind second place Out of the Vortex and first place The Price Is Right. The Generation Gap only needed one more Traveling Wilbury to place in the money, but settled for fourth. Skirtland was once again hovering near the top, tying with the Lethal Amoebas for fifth. Carol, in the meantime, would like to remind everyone that KCC came in second (last week).
Kevin and Joanne of the Kaiser Sozhe team took advantage of their Monday off and visited the Chuckles show. They came in seventh and chose "Cagney and Lacey" as next week's theme. (Joanne was shooting for "synchronized swimming" but was overruled.)

All In the Dysfunctional Family

For 15 years members of the Tony Danza Slap! team have been meeting their friends on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to escape their blood relatives and have a dysfunctional family dinner. This year it was at Sarah's mom's house and they added a trivia show for some extra excitement. Here's a pic of Olivia (in the polka dot ensemble) surrounded by her winning teammates, The Poo Poo Platters. The Poos narrowly squeaked by the External Genitalia team, May the Fours Be With You and the Raging Flamers to claim the remnants of the Trashbag of Deelite. Alas, there were no ukuleles to be found.
After the show the gang settled down to a cutthroat game of Spoons, which involves a group of 15 people sitting around a table, playing cards and going into a frenzy for lethal eating utensils.

Reminder: No Trivia at VFW Tonight

Just a reminder that there will be no trivia at the VFW tonight, Thanksgiving Eve. The post is having a band perform, so you might want to check that out. Or you can spend the evening getting to know your turkey.

Bubes: Something to Be Thankful For

I'm whacked out on cold medication, and I left my notes at home, so this is off the top of my head (actually, I wish I could take off the top of my head and pluck out the mucus monster that's taken up residence there). It was a an extra-fun, standing room only (literally) crowd of pre-holiday partiers. Cousin Leann was there with her family and her Mad-libbing significant other Tim. Ryan and Becky and Peck made a rare appearance, as did Roger and Tara and friends (above) of Big, Drunk and Stoopid. And Kumiko pre-celebrated her 25th birthday.

The$2 Michael Vick Doggy Daycare Center and the Tony Danza Slap tied for sixth, so there will be two themes next week: the Great American Songbook and Adult Swim (respectively). I think Two Girls and a Cup came in fifth, followed by Spider-Pig. The Drunken Clams continued their winning ways with third and only a one-point difference separated the returning Chubby Stubbies (2nd) and Linuscratchitt (first)

Brendee's: The League of Substitute Hosts

Since regular host Justin Shiffer was away terrorizing lobsters in Maine, I became the substitute host at his Brendee's all-sports trivia show. I love Brendee's. As Evil Pete of the Lancaster 505 once said, it's the quintessential corner bar. The food is excellent, as is the staff, which has a bunch of folks from the trivia family: John Flavin of the Arrogant Bastards is one of the bartenders, Tim Thompson of Ubersmack is the manager and The Bouncer Formerly Known As Hot Tub Steve is from Broken Lizard. And co-owner Steve Gallo used to work with Curtis way back in the Holiday Inn Days. So, thanks to Tim and Caroline for making me feel at home.

On the competition-front, Carol and Dwight (AKA Bacardi AKA Drink Beer on Thursday, pictured above) won the first game, narrowly beating Shut the F*ck Up Donnie, You're Out of Your Element (Donnie blamed it on too many baseball questions) and Deric (AKA Deric). The standings were turned around in the second game, when an inspired name change to I'm Not Creative Make Up a Name for Me by Deric propelled him to the leader spot. Competition was again close for the extreme logo close-up picture round, when Deric beat Lick My Logo by one point. Other teams competing tonight included A-Rod Is a Greedy Pig, What!, Cotton 41, The Blue Ribbons, BP, Broke, Carly, and the appropriately-named Mike Is the Trivia God - But We Suck at Sports Trivia. Troutman also had fun with his team names, which described Jeff in various sex acts.

Chuckles: Once You Go Black...

Casey and Clinton are two members of everybody's favorite Sunday night mega-team, The Tidy Bowlers (yay!). The Bowlers always have fun with their prizes, as demonstrated by Clinton's willingness to dye his hair. He had won a box of black hair dye from the Trashbag of Deelite the previous week and actually used it! Why go to an expensive salon, when you can get these results for one dollar!
Karen, Carol and Corie had an excellent night, adding K and B to their mix to become KCKCB. Their team took second, right behind The Price Is Right and right in front of Out of the Vortex. Corie also won the treasured pumpkin pie, and TOBO donated the Twinkies cookbook to them.

Skirtland and the Lethal Amoebas tied for fourth, while Ubersmack and Sue's Crew tied for sixth. Therefore, we're going to have two themes: Kim chose Stephen King novels, while Deric chose Beavis and Butthead.
Trish brought Susie along as a re-enforcement and played as the Twin Roses (AKA the Two Roses).

VFW: The Two Faces of John

John and his team, the B52s, got to experience the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat all within the space of ten minutes when it was revealed that I had screwed up the scoring. So they went from third to fourth. Mixed Company also moved down from second to third, allowing the true second-placers, Room Two, to claim the silver. Tonight's winners were the ones who chose tonight's theme, Shitz and Giggles. We're Here for the Beer claimed fifth, followed by Chicks and Dicks. D&M were tonight's theme pickers and chose "Indiana Jones movies." D was also the winner of a turkey, courtesy of Bonnie Powers of Lititz. (That's the second time I mentioned her name this week, so her Google rankings will go through the roof).

Note: there will be no trivia on Thanksgiving Eve (Nov. 21st) since we're having a band at the post that night. See you in two weeks!

Bube's: A Pint Is Raised

Another Happy Pint was happy that they checked out trivia at Bube's, since they were tonight's victors. And it was a brutal night of competition that they stumbled upon. After a particularly bloody final round, it was the Pint in first, the always formidable Linuscratchitt in second, and a tie for third between Desperadoes Under the Eaves and the $2 Smoking Suitcases. Captain Jack was called into duty and bit Ivan twice, so the Desperadoes took home the 10 bucks. The Tony Danza Extra Slappy Slap was fifth, followed by BAINbridge and the Sack and Smack team (or whatever they're calling themselves nowadays). They chose rappers' real names as their theme for next week.

P.S.: Greg of Team Discovery Channel was the lucky winner of a free turkey, courtesy of Bonnie Powers of Lititz.

Chuckles: Revenge of the Robot Girl

It was another free-for-all in the last round at Chuckles. The Princess and Bugman team had a very impressive 77 points, but that only got them seventh! (They chose "Looney Tunes" as their theme for next week, by the way). And only one question separated the top 7 teams. When the dust settled, the Price Is Light took third and The Talent Scouts tied with Ubersmack for first. The Scouts once again sent Scott up to take on Deric in the Captain Jack Off, and he once again lost. (He has since been unceremoniously benched.) New teams included SWWC, who had to leave to get back to their husbands, and We Love Cheese, named after their bag of Cheese Puffs. Teams with players born after 1980 didn't fare too well tonight, and it's a Small Wonder, since 80s sitcoms were the theme. (Get it? Small Wonder? Okay, I'll stop typing now.)

Ambucs: Who's That Twinkie?

Saturday night I ran a trivia show for a regional Ambucs convention at the Host resort. 98% had never played the game before, but all had a great time. (Especially those who won Amish-oriented prizes from the Trashbag of Deelite). Here we have a pic of the controversial winning team, 9 Ambucs and a Twinkie (the Twinkie being the guy in the creamsicle suit in the back row). Thanks again to Frank of the VFW for introducing me to this fun group of guys and gals.

VFW: Ring the Bells

Bill and the Belltones celebrate their victory Wednesday night. They tied Mixed Company for first, so it was Dave vs. Red Sweater Lady, with RSL handily defeating him. Double Dat, AKA Alice in Wonderland, used their ice-fishing knowledge to capture third. Only one point behind were D&M and another point behind was Room Two. AND only one point behind were the B52s. Shitz and Giggles were shocked to only get seventh place with an impressive 74 points. They got to choose the theme, however: "America's Next Top Model," which thrilled the Four Players to no end.
Donna of the Hackers and Donna of Double Dat, bonded when they realized they were both Scorpios.

Bube's: A Threeway with Pigs

Spider-Pig has been steadily climbing the ladder to success, and tonight they made the top rung! In an unprecedented turn of events, we had three teams tie for first (Spider-Pig, last week's champs the Inebriated Mussels and Ubersmack My Nutsack Up). The three teams each sent one representative and I tortured them with some extra questions. The Pigs were the only ones to successfully answer and the Smack and Sacks got the Judy Garland tie-breaker, so the Mussels took third. Fourth went to the newly-renamed Tony Danza's Lap, the Olives' winning streak ended with a fifth-place finish, the $2 Arrogant Geneticists were sixth and we had a tie for seventh. So it's back to two themes next week: tribonds (Team Discovery Channel's choice) and Hunter S. Thompson (A Dirty Shame's choice).
Deric the Urban (right; as in "sitting on the right," not "riiiiiiiiight!") joined Josh and Josiah to form a mash-up team: Ubersmack My Nutsack Up.
Seth, Laura and Josh slip a little tongue after the show. You can see more of Josh's tongue when his band Flatbed Ford plays Saturday night at Bube's. Highly recommended!

Chuckles: A Real Nail-Biter

World War 2 has been a popular theme this year, fueled, no doubt by Ken Burns' PBS series (I'm currently up to hour 3 of the 14 hour series.) It was a nailbiter night, with only 3 points separating the top 5 teams. In the end it was Kim and Sue of Sue's Crew who recruited two new members and took the top prize. They beat Ubersmack and Third Rock by one point. Then it was Deric vs. Trish on Captain Jack-off, with Deric the winner. Only one point behind were Skirtland, while one point behind them were Chickens in a Biscuit. The Fugis were sixth, which meant Princess (representing Manheim Township) took seventh. She chose "80s sitcoms" as her theme.

The Wand Polishers

Hagrid, Neville, Ron, Hermione, Snape, Luna and Harry all had a great time at Billy Warmth's annual Halloween bash at Crossgates.
