VFW: Olympic Competition

I felt strangely naked without my podium (see below for the tragic story), but the show went on. The B52s had a last round surge and tied with the Rex Ryan Salute, so we had a Captain Jack-off™ between Sheila and Matt with Sheila the winner. K decided to let B play on her team, so K-B took the bronze. The Noids and the Scranton Miners tied for fourth while D and M took sixth. There was a tie between 2H+2 and Shambles so we'll have two themes: Nintendo and gangster rap. (Two themes which I can safely say we've never had at the VFW).

Bube's: The Return of Precipitation Tuesday

The threat of snow could not stop the trivia faithful as a full house did battle. The Toxic Olives emerged victorious, one question ahead of the Planeteers (who had their highest placing to date). T-Borg, a team of visiting businessmen, came in third. 3 Parts Hate, 1 Parts Late and a Dash of Raging Masculinity - Nutsacktinis brought along Nathan's brother James and placed fourth. Oily Discharge made their annual trek from parts unknown and placed fifth, six points ahead of One Ball Paul and the Rhythm Disciples. Theme choice goes to the Fizzing Whizbees and Soren. Soren can't make it next week, so we might go with host's choice (depending on how creative I feel) and the Whizbee's choice of snakes.

It began snowing during the show and we had a casualty: my podium! I had it propped up against the side of the car while I was loading the trunk and it slipped on the snow and broke off a chunk. I think it's reparable, though, so it should be back in action next week. Whew!

Chuckles: Nurses Make a Killing

Nurses: We Keep Doctors from Killing You had a special night, so their cellphone pic deserves a special treatment (ohhhhh..... border effect!). They were five points ahead of Second Collection, while Skirtland took the bronze. Ubersmack and The Miami Blades missed the money by one question, slightly ahead of the Twin Roses, while the 'Splodin' Sharks had an excellent last round and placed sixth. Theme choice goes to the Three Amigos and they are going with Bill in honor of Out of the Vortex's MIA Bill. And don't forget there will be no trivia the next two Sundays (Super Bowl Sunday Feb. 7th and Valentine's Day, Feb. 14th). See you on the 21st!

A nice article about Lititz in the New York Times can be found here.

Raystown Lake vs. Lake Wallenpaupack

Here's an interesting article about the size of lakes in Pennsylvania, for those who think that Wallenpaupack is the largest lake within the borders of Pennsylvania.

VFW: New Yawk, New Yawk

Hanging on Barack's Every Word won for the second week in a row, two questions ahead of Chicks and Dicks. The Bowery was up, not down and took third. The B52s, stuffed with New Yorkers, took fourth ahead of K-B and Room Two. Theme choice goes to Dennis and Mel and they would like some Winter Olympics trivia.

Bube's: Did You Just Say Hufflepuff?

Hogwarts grad Fallon helped Quietly Making Noise take the top prize tonight, while Imo helped Blue Lightning take second. Last week's champs the Toxic Olives were third and we had a three-way between the Fizzing Whizbees, the Planeteers and the Tony Danza Slap for fourth (they were all just one question away from second place). That meant Determined Not To Get Last Place was true to their name, as they took the coveted seventh-place spot and have chosen bartending as next week's theme. Also, we said goodbye to Danni, who is headed to the Far Southern state of Maryland.

Chuckles: Shooting Their Eyes Out

It was a special combo of trivia, Vikings and Saints and there was carnage on both fields. Ubersmack returned to the winner's circle, ahead of last week's champs Second Collection. Marge of Out of the Vortex defeated Chris of Of Sticky Tongues and Neighbor's Hounds to take third. the Menstruals and the Nurses tied for fifth while Skirtland and the Miami Blades (featuring newlyweds Andrew and Aimee) tied for sixth. Theme choice goes to the ladies of KCC and they are going to Graceland, Graceland, Memphis Tennessee, they're going to Graceland...

Themes

Okay, one of these days I'll get back into blogging. In the mean time, Tuesday night we have two themes at Bube's: Harry Potter and South America (apparently there's a branch of Hogwarts at La Paz), while the theme at the VFW is New York City.

Chuckles: For the Birds

The only picture that tripped up all the teams tonight was of a Buick Skylark convertible (see above), but a lot of teams were still flying high (ugh). 2nd Collection took the gold, followed by Out of the Vortex (Featuring Dr. Scott, father of the old Vile Sea Bass team). A small version of Skirtland placed third. Greg and Jean of Prius was in first all night and only missed the money by one point. The Zombies Angels charged in the last round to take fifth, as did the Twin Roses, who were sixth. There was a tie for seventh between the IDKs and the Pixie Stix, so we'll have two themes next week: makes and models of cars and the movie A Christmas Story. Also: please note that there will be no trivia on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 7th) and Valentine's Day (Feb. 14th), in case you're planning ahead.
